European Association of Thermology - EAT

The European Association of Thermology – EAT is a non-governmental, non-profit organisation that supports  and promotes the science of temperature measurement in medicine and biology across Europe through a programme of scientific congresses and educational courses and via its journal, Thermology International.”

The EAT main goals are:

  • to encourage the exchange of ideas and experiences between national thermological associations.
  • to assist in improving scientific research in the area of thermology and related disciplines in basic research, technology, industry, medicine and biology.
  • to improve the respective understanding between practitioners of thermological techniques.
  • to disseminate scientific results in the area of thermology within Europe.
  • to initiate and support European research groups in the area of thermology.
  • to create and expand contacts with non-European associations of thermology.
  • to organise a European Congress of Thermology every 3 years.

Grupo de Investigación en Biomecánica Deportiva (GIBD)

GIBD (Sports Biomechanics Research Group) is a research team within the Faculty of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences at the University of Valencia. The group promotes interdisciplinary collaboration between biomechanics, physiology, sports science, and health sciences, with a strong focus on applied research and knowledge transfer to athletes, clinicians, and industry. Its main research areas include:

  • Evaluation of skin temperature behaviour and its relationship with thermoregulation and fatigue during physical activity.
  • Sports materials and equipment: evaluation and analysis of sports equipment and apparel, especially foot orthoses, footwear, compression garments, and other textile materials.
  • Biomechanical evaluation and analysis of physical activity, particularly during running, walking, and cycling, as well as the study of sports performance from an applied biomechanics and physiological perspective.
  • Monitoring of muscle oxygenation with Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS).
  • Assessment of individuals with spinal cord injury during physical exercise to ensure safe practice.
  • Evaluation of paediatric oncology populations during treatment through planned and supervised physical activity programmes, including the analysis of training effects.

Its research activity is reflected in numerous contributions to scientific publications indexed in JCR journals, presentations at national and international conferences, book chapters, and the publication of the group’s own manuals on applied sports biomechanics.

GIBD has two biomechanics laboratories, one located on the Valencia campus and another on the Ontinyent campus.
